Meta Glasses Review: My Honest Thoughts After One Month

I want to share my full review of the Meta Glasses after having them for a full month.

Meta Glasses Near You

I was really excited to find out that my local optometrist’s office was listed in Meta’s “Find a Store” search. They even had a pair on display when I went in for my appointment this fall. I had already been looking into them and decided I really wanted the Skylar in the Gradient Cinnamon Pink color, so they ordered them for me, and the anticipation started building.

After getting my eyes checked and updating my prescription, I opted for transition lenses, blue light protection, and scratch resistance. The total price? Only $365.20 with my vision insurance! I had expected them to cost closer to $1,000, so I was pleasantly surprised. You can also buy these glasses directly from Ray-Ban’s site or Amazon as sunglasses, which makes them a great gift option. They typically run around $300 and are comparable to other high-quality sunglasses.

Meta AI

Everyone wants to know how good Meta AI is. If you’ve ever used the built-in chat in Facebook, you probably have an idea of its capabilities: it’s decent but not amazing. It does have its uses, though. I’ve enjoyed asking it about specific items I’m looking at, and it’s been fairly accurate in identifying them.

For example, I asked it about a La Croix sparkling water I was drinking, and it told me where I could buy it and how much it cost at various stores. I also use the glasses for basic tasks like answering calls, making calls, responding to texts, and — my favorite — setting reminders! I didn’t even know it could do that, but it’s been a helpful feature when I’m wearing them.

That said, the AI model has limitations. It’s not great for in-depth answers and can’t control everything on your phone like Siri. If the app isn’t connected, it’s essentially unreachable. I’d love more hands-free capabilities in the future.

Camera

The camera is by far my favorite feature, especially as a mom of three. It’s perfect for snapping pictures or videos on the go without pulling out my phone. It’s discreet, so most people don’t even realize I’m taking pictures.

This feature has been particularly useful while shopping when I want to remember an item without feeling self-conscious about pulling out my phone. I also feel more present with my kids and family since I can tuck my phone away and just press a small button on my glasses to capture a moment.

The photos automatically sync to my iPhone, making them super easy to access. There are other features like uploading to social media or live streaming, but I haven’t enabled those because I’m careful about what I post online and wouldn’t want anything to upload unintentionally.

Battery Life & Pairing

Now onto the practical stuff. Battery life is pretty important to me since I wear glasses all day for work and driving. Unfortunately, the glasses only last 5–6 hours with intermittent use before needing a recharge.

While they charge quickly, it’s still disappointing compared to devices like my Fitbit or Powerbeats, which last much longer. As someone who prefers not to recharge throughout the day, this is an area for improvement — especially since glasses are something you might wear all day. However, I love the leather charging case.

Aesthetic

I love the look of the Skylars I bought, but some of the other models felt bulky when I tried them on. That said, Meta has done a great job offering a variety of styles and colors, so there’s something for everyone.

The two small cameras are discreet, but they might make some people uncomfortable in certain settings, like meetings or dinners. It’s worth being mindful of how others may perceive them.

I’ve enjoyed the Meta Glasses for their stylish design and useful features like the camera and open-ear audio. However, the Meta AI capabilities, battery life, and lack of advanced technical integrations left me a little underwhelmed.

If you’re looking for stylish smart glasses with basic features, these are worth considering. But if you’re expecting cutting-edge functionality, you might want to wait for future improvements. For now, I’ll keep using them and look forward to the next generation of smart glasses — especially AR and VR models that promise even more functionality.
